Frequently Asked Questions
1. What services and facilities does GEECI provide?
GEECI provides an end-to-end ecosystem for Gallium Nitride (GaN) HEMT device development at IISc’s National Nanofabrication Centre (NNfC), offering MOCVD-grown GaN wafers, device fabrication, modeling, RF/High Power characterization and packaging. Beyond our core capabilities, the facility supports the broader semiconductor ecosystem with advanced lithography and processing for applications like Photonics, Quantum technologies and Nitride MEMS. Additionally, as an incubator within the Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID), GEECI provides comprehensive incubation services to startups operating in these advanced technology sectors.
2. What is the GEECI Incubation Program, and who is it for?
The GEECI Incubation Program provides early-stage startups in GaN and adjacent deep-tech sectors with subsidized access to our state-of-the-art facilities. Beyond infrastructure, incubated startups benefit from dedicated technical and business mentorship from the IISc and FSID ecosystem. Learn more about our Incubation Program here.
3. What does the EIR program offer?
The Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) program is a one-year initiative designed for individual innovators looking to validate and develop a deep-tech business idea aligned with GEECI’s mission before formal company incorporation. The program bridges the gap between initial ideation and incubation readiness by offering dedicated technical and business mentorship, facility access and financial support. Furthermore, EIR graduates receive preferential consideration for our three-year Incubation Program. Learn more about the EIR Program here.
4. How can startups leverage GEECI offerings?
We welcome startups across the full GaN value chain. This includes upstream materials and substrates, device design and fabrication and downstream system applications as well as adjacent deep-tech sectors. Incubated startups receive subsidized foundry access and strategic ecosystem support. Startups that do not need formal incubation can still engage our foundry services at a discounted tier, subject to qualifying criteria.
Yes. GEECI offers discounted facility usage rates to academic institutions and research groups. If you are an academic entity looking to execute GaN processes in our fab or utilize specific characterization and processing tools.
Yes. GEECI is fully equipped to provide robust foundry services to commercial industry partners, specializing in prototyping and low-volume manufacturing. Industry clients can leverage the GEECI line for multi-step, end-to-end fabrication processes, or alternatively utilize our standalone processes or services in characterization, modeling and packaging.
7. How does GEECI safeguard Intellectual Property (IP)?
As a trusted foundry services and innovation partner, GEECI is strictly committed to protecting our clients’ intellectual property. All customer data, process flows, and designs shared with us are treated with the highest sensitivity.
